July 31st, 2008: Baby Friends

For those of you who don't know, Lauren and I have been friends since we were four years old. Today, William and Ethan met for the first time outside their Mommy's' bellies. Ethan turned 4 weeks today, and William is 5.5 weeks. They didn't really respond to one another but did grab hands a few times. Surely, they'll be more interested in being mischievous together as they grow.

The second title for today's entry is "Bumper Pad Advocate." I've come to believe in bumper pads. They catch the things your newborn throws and shoots at you. In a matter of 15 minutes, we went through 4 diapers. The first was the diaper I was taking off of William; the second diaper caught most of the pee he shot at me; the bumper pad caught the squirts of poop he shot at me (the changing pad caught some too); the third diaper was filled with the rest of the poop that turned out not to be a skid mark; and the fourth diaper caught the gas that followed. Yes, bumper pads come in handy to catch the things that baby's send your way.

July 28th - Growing Sweet Pea

William was weighed today as we have for the past two Mondays. He is still growing very well, and proving that he does not fit into the wimpy white boy stereotype the doctors iinformed us of. We have a healthy baby boy.

Today, he weighed 5 pounds, 12.4 ounces, and Mommy and Daddy were once again amazed at the effects of breast milk. Since birth (5 weeks ago early tomorrow morning), he's gained over two pounds and grown 2 inches, measuring 18.5 inches. Here are pictures from today. We got a little excited with family time thus morning: There's nothing like snuggling in the morning.

July 22nd, 2008

At 4:24 this morning, William was 4 weeks old. We can't believe he's been out of my belly that long already. This Thursday will mark the end of his second week home, and although I'm still getting used to the late night/early morning feedings, having him home has been surreal. As with buying the house, we've had a lot of help from family and friends, and we couldn't be more thankful. They have all been a blessing.

Here are pictures of William enjoying a little play and tummy time today.

July 21st, 2008 - 4 pounds 15.4ounces

Daddy, this post is for you.

Today, William had a big day. He had his one month/newborn photos taken with Mandy Lens Photography (http://www.mandylens.com/), which should be ready in about 1.5 weeks. Just as he always pees on Mommy, he made his mark on Mandy's set and urinated on her blanket. We stopped at the Pediatrician's on the way home to make sure he is continuing to gain weight. He is and weighed a wopping 4 pounds 15.4ounces. He's so close to being within the weight range for his car seat! Sorry, you all, we'll still have to stay home and have a few visitors that don't touch. William still needs to be kept from germs until he is about 3 months. As far as sleep goes, Mommy still has trouble sleeping during the day, and William is back to feeding every three hours - day and night (at least until he weighs in at 6-7 pounds).

JULY 13TH

July 14th - First apt. with Pediatritian

Today, William went to the pediatritian for the first time. He had been home for 4 days and gained 6.2 ounces bringing his weight to 4 pounds, 9.2 ounces. The doctor said he looked great and Mommy and Daddy could increase his daytime feeding and allow him to sleep 4 hours between his nightly feedings.

July 10th, 2008 William Came Home at 16 days old

William had been doing so well in the hospital the doctors decided it was time for him to come home. His weight upon leaving the hospital was 4 pounds, 3.4 ounces. He went home without any machines or medicines, only vitamins to add to his milk. He didn't quite fit in his car seat, so we had to make a few adjustments. Mommy and Daddy were ecstatic and nervous all at the same time.
